As a makeup artist, there are moments in your career that stand out, and being part of a fashion show during Black History Month in London was one of those unforgettable moments. The event, featuring the designs of ToteLondoner, was a celebration of culture, creativity, and pride, and I had the incredible opportunity to contribute my artistry to this meaningful occasion.
For the show, I decided to go for a soft yet impactful makeup look that would highlight the models' natural beauty while complementing the bold fashion designs on the runway. The key feature of the look was a classic, bold red lipstick – a timeless symbol of confidence, empowerment, and sophistication. It was important to create a makeup look that both captured the essence of the event and made a statement.
The skin was kept fresh and glowing, with minimal contouring to maintain a natural, radiant complexion. Soft eyeshadow in neutral tones provided a subtle depth, allowing the red lips to truly stand out. I aimed for a look that would enhance the models’ features without overpowering them, ensuring the makeup worked harmoniously with the designs and theme of the show.
The event itself was a powerful reminder of the importance of representation and celebrating Black culture in the fashion and beauty industries. To be able to contribute to that conversation through makeup was both humbling and empowering.
This experience reinforced my belief in the transformative power of makeup and how it can be a tool for storytelling, expression, and celebration. Each brushstroke was not just about enhancing beauty; it was about paying homage to the vibrant culture and legacy that Black History Month represents.
